Birthdays, WOC's, Horrid Food and Krispy Kremes (the title says it all).

Saturday 6 April 2013

It was Ben's birthday yesterday. My boy is now 7. He comes up to my shoulders but that's not hard when you're a shortbum like me. We were taking him out for something to eat in one of those out of town places where the parking is free and the food is horrid.

I started like this with white sneakers and turn ups and a WOC.

Mango coat, Zara shirt, Jack Wills jeans, Primark sneakers.
Hobbs NW3 Hazel bag.

A WOC is a Wallet ON Chain. I'd never heard of this expression till a few weeks ago when Marlene (Bag Guru Extraordinaire) was talking about them and the initials fell in to place. Anyway, this is my little WOC - the Hobbs NW3 Hazel bag (A/W 2012). It's a little cutie and it's also a mare. It's a little cutie in that it is a lovely shade of plum and it is a mare because the zip is designed so badly (way too long)  and you have to "tuck it away" using a little press stud they ingeniously thought of. However, I have to say it would have been more ingenious to have put on a shorter zip. This little bag was an Ebay score so I didn't pay huge pennies for it and for that reason I can live with this little aberation. That aside, I like it as the little plum bag looks quite fresh and almost dainty compared to the usual monster bags that I heave around daily.

Anyway, my feet were cold and I was cold so I changed to boots .....

Office Namesake Boots

... which were a little bit warmer but then I went off and sneaked a bit of George's chocolate Easter bunny and a piece dropped on my shirt and melted down the front which I didn't notice till 5 mins before I was heading out of the door. That will teach me for being a greedy guts!

One shirt soaking in the sink and a change for something even warmer ...

Uniqlo Cashmere jumper, Oasis Faux Fur Gilet, M&S Altered Coat

.... and I was finally out of the door.

The horrid meal from the dreadful fake Italian/American eating place was compensated by the fact  that the Krispy Kreme shop was just around the corner.

PUDDING!

Hands off the original glazed. They're mine!

-----------------------------

Hope you're all having a lovely Easter so far.

  1. Haha, I love your many outfits! Most days I walk out of the door and dart straight back in to change my jacket or shoes according to the weather. I especially like that denim shirt - I've been after one of those for a while.

I'm jealous of your donuts - I hope you enjoyed them (and got the ones you wanted - chocolate dream cake for me!).

    1. I made sure I got my original glazed! I ordered six of them just to make sure :o)

Oh I'm constantly changing my mind when getting dressed in the morning. The weather obviously has a lot to answer for but I often change even after the morning school run (the joggy bots get pulled on pretty pronto). And then I have to change again for the school run in the afternoon and I will drag on whatever comes to hand which is not always the same as what I had on in the morning. My spare room is pretty messy as you can imagine.

You should take a look at the denim shirt (current season) - it's lighter than a regular denim shirt and with a mao collar. Fastened to the neck and tucked in with your new Zara trousers, it would look wonderful. It even looks nice on the almost smiling Zara model! http://www.zara.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/uk/en/zara-neu-S2013/358004/1143020/MAO+COLLAR+DENIM+SHIRT

  2. Lovely pic of you both:)
The converse add a lovely crisp touch to this outfit.
And this post makes me wish that my Mango coat had suited me, that it was warm enough here for converse and no socks.....and that I had bought the Office boots in taupe Namesake instead of Untouchable. I do have the Namesake in brown but updated to the Untouchable recently. They're a great boot but I can't seem to get comfy with them...
Love the colour of the bag, reminds me of my Jaeger tote (the best quality bag I own, forget Mulberry!). Recently purchased a Massimo Dutti satchel and not sure about that either! These were my spring purchases, topped off nicely by the Marant Stacy blouse (highly recommend!) so no more fun until Autumn. I hope I shall get to wear these things with my white jeans soon. Here's to the British weather! x

Oh and happy belated birthday wishes to your lovely boy!

    1. Oh Louise, it wasn't really warm enough for the Converse which is why I had to change in to boots and socks. I was a touch ambitious! I really like the look of the Untouchable boots - I thought they would have been mega comfy like the Namesake ones which I think you had a lot of success with as they are pretty similar looking. But you can never tell with these things. My boots are a bit of a mess at the moment as I'd been tucking in some of my dark skinnies in to them and there has been a bit of dye transfer around the top of the boots (I might even have to invest in a spare pair).

I'm deeply jealous of the Stacey blouse - I see it around and if I hadn't been messing around with innumerable jackets, it would have been sitting in my wardrobe by now. Languishing unworn probably as I am rubbish at wearing new things straightaway. You will look lovely in it with white jeans - fingers crossed for the weather to perk up!

Thanks for Ben's birthday wishes too!

  4. OK, blogging is now starting to cost me money. Between you and that bag, Marlene and her WOC, Kat & her must have small cross body bag from M&S .. clearly I now feel that my bag collection has a MASSIVE hole in it which must be filled immediately. I sense a TK Maxx visit coming on!

    1. Oh go on ... divert some money from your top fund and put it to a WOC! There must be a little bit spare after I found you the Mango tops which came in way under budget!

  5. Ooh, I had never heard of the abbreviation WOC either! I do own a WOC though, a black, sleek little thing that I bought in Paris from Carré Royal. I believe it might be this one: http://www.carreroyal.com/wallets/53-large-wallet.html only I got a chain strap, not a leather one.

Also, I love your coat, and YOU are GORGEOUS!

Oooh I just went to have a nosey and I have to say that's lovely. Really sleek. I like both colours of the bag too and I bet it hangs better than mine without any silly long zips. I forgive mine on the grounds of lush colour though.

  6. Happy B-day to Ben:) I do love the whole WOC style and serious think I now NEED one. My handbag collection thanks you, my wallet - maybe not so much;)

    1. Oh go on ... we all need a little WOC in our lives. I never really thought much of the whole WOC thing thinking it wasn't for me as I was lost in the mummy mindset of "must have big bag to carry everything" until I realised I could just give the kids a rucksack and let them carry their own stuff !

  7. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Ben! Hope he had a lovely time. You look lovely and comfortable! Not sure if it's in UK but I tried Dunkin' Donuts first (Bavarian Cream filling is my fav) and got hooked on them then I tried Krispy Creme which is much too sweet for me, sadly.

    1. I've heard of Dunkin' Donuts but never seen one. I like my doughnuts relatively plain - I've been known to scrape the jam out of doughnuts because it's too sweet but I can handle the original glazed Krispy Kremes - the icing is just "light" enough for me.

And yes, I was comfy - that black fur gilet has had so much wear this year, it's really coming in to it's own. I felt so much better after changing as I was so much warmer. Sometimes you just can't fight the UK weather.

  8. Happy Birthday Ben!! I'd never heard the phrase WOC either, but I love it. Love the outfits too, how brave are you to wear double denim! Fwiw, I end up changing several times a day too. Mucky puppness is a pain in the bum.

    1. Thank you for Ben. Black and blue denim seems quite acceptable somehow so I don't see this one as being too controversial.

And yes - mucky puppiness is a pain but I have to give the boys credit ... they are getting better probably because they are getting older :o(

  10. Ha sue this happened me today, lump of yogurt down a chambray shirt but I'm not going anywhere exciting now so it's still on me lol! That little bag is gorgeous, such a lovely shade! Ben is so cute hope you all had a nice day! X

    1. Well I know Ben had a great day - "stupendously awesome" were his words when I asked him at the end of the day.

I had to change my shirt - I like it too much to have it ruined so soon. So it was quick action with the handwash - I rub a little handwash or washing up liquid on stains - works miracles on getting stains out. Honest.

    1. These acronyms eh? No I didn't know what one was until I read Marlene's post a little while back. Heck, I didn't even know that there was a name for them. I'd have just called it one of those small bag things.

I love the colour of this bag and I'm glad I got the plum version. I wanted the pewter one when they were available in the shops and they sold out and then the plum one showed up on Ebay. It was meant to be.

  15. Happy Birthday to Ben for yesterday! I can't take my eyes of your donuts Sue. Would you believe my kids (and myself) have never tried Krispy Kreme donuts, I've promised to treat them next time we're in Meadowhall - the chocolate covered ones are calling me! x

    1. Oh no ... I don't deviate from the Original Glazed. We got a mixed box once and everybody declared that the original glazed were the best at the end of it. Definitely try them. They are just different from the regular supermarket doughnuts - a lot lighter in the dough. Very more'ish and very easy to eat more than 2 in a sitting :O)

  17. Happy Birthday to Ben! Wow look at all those Krispy Kremes...lucky!! Original glazed are definitely the best.

I am a big fan of the WOC - when I was at college/uni/school I was forced to lug around a giant handbag filled with books all day long, so now I relish the feeling of a dainty little bag sitting on my hip :)

I have the same Primark sneakers - they're so close to Converse aren't they!? I love them. You've inspired me to get my Mango jacket back out (which for some reason I haven't been wearing much recently) - SUEper outfits as usual! xx

    1. They are brilliant those Primark sneakers - I'll make a confession now - I bought two pairs. One so I can wear them with the H&M jeans which seems to leak dye across all my footwear and I thought I'd keep a pair for when I wanted to wear a plain pair of sneakers which weren't Converse. At £6 a pair, it would have been rude not to. And I'm keeping my eye out for the grey version too but they never seem to have them in. I see the odd pair but never in my size.

Oh do get the Mango jacket back out ... I think we're reaching a good time of the year for the jacket. I'm going to get lots of wear out of mine before the weather hots up (she says praying hard).

  18. Oh man, krispy kreme! That's something I can only get when I go to San Francisco for a visit. Do they have the bit where you can see them making the original glazed, and they pass under a magical waterfall of liquid glaze and come out piping hot on the conveyer belt and they give you one for free while you stand in line? Drool...

ps- love that fur thingamie of yours. So cool.

    1. Yes they did have the whole doughnut making thing going on but as it was late evening, I don't think everything was working because I didn't see any magical waterfalls of liquid glaze (what a fabulous description!). And no we definitely did not get one free. They cost a fortune compared to the normal supermarket doughnuts but I am daft enough to pay the extra - it's a nice treat sometimes. I might take the boys sometime during the day when I can have a coffee and sit in with a warm doughnut (deelish).

And I am loving my fur thingamie this year - it is super warm! It's funny how you fall in love with things all over again - I've had it seven years or more and never wore it that much till now.

  19. Happy birthday to Ben! They grow up so quickly don't they? Me likey the look of those Primark sneakers and the krispy kreme's I can't resist buying them whenever I get to Bluewater xx

    1. The Primark are such a cheap cheats way to get the Converse look. They are actually an ivory colour but much nicer than the Converse in cream which is quite yellow. At £6, they're worth a try and if you don't like them ... the daughters can claim them?

  20. i love the gilet! definitely getting one for myself, already kind of hating that it's too cold to walk around in underwear at home now. lol. and that mango coat, ah, so much regret. and ugh i can never resist kk original glazed if someone puts one in front of me.

    ps - happy birthday to ben! i can't believe you're a mum of a 7 year old (!!!?!?!?)

It's so weird to think you are hitting autumn as we are welcoming spring. It will be fun to see you pulling the winter coats on as we are pulling on the shorts (jumping ahead of myself again) but I'm sure you're going to pull off some great looks.

And yeah I can hardly believe that I am a mum of a 7 year old as well. How did that happen?

  23. I was just happily reading when I got to the part of guru extraordinaire and promptly choked on my cheese biscuit. I'll tell you a secret. This supposed guru only just figured out what WOC stands for last year when I googled the acronym. Hey! I had no idea Hobbs has a similar bag to the Celine Trio. There's just one down the road from me. I'll have to pop in to have a look.
